<h3>The genesis</h3>The concept was founded by the team behind Amsterdam’s world-famous Audio Obscura events, which has gained a reputation for staging electronic music events in the most unusual and iconic spaces. Unfold.art continues this trend of bringing magical experiences to striking spaces across the world, helping to reshape the urban landscape. Inspired by kinetic light installations, the team decided to take the concept into a new direction—complementing and enhancing this striking digital art with the power of music.<h4>How it manifests</h4>Collaborating with the most innovative artists across art, technology, new media and music, Unfold.art pushes the boundaries of the imagination with its large-scale experiences. Taking over black box locations across the world and transforming them into playgrounds of light, these residencies take art into new dimensions of experience. With the visual piece at its heart, these installations also give a home to live performances and raves alongside the art exhibition itself. About us

Unfold.art | new worlds of light & sound

Choosing to work with artists who are pushing the boundaries of the imagination, Unfold.art provides a platform to develop immersive art and bring these to audiences across the world.

Nonotak is a creative studio project founded by former illustrator Noemi Schipfer and former architect-musician Takami Nakamoto that was conceived in 2012. Nonotak works with light &amp; sound installations and performance pieces to create ethereal, immersive and dreamlike environments which are built to envelope, challenge and stagger the viewer capitalising on Nakamoto’s approach to space, light &amp; sound and Schipfer’s experience with kinetic visual and complex, geometric illustrations. Nonotak’s aestetic is inspired by minimal architecture and optical art.

Article 10 - Unfold.art RULESTo run our event as safely and quietly as possible, Unfold.art drafted a few rules. When entering the event you automatically agree with these rules.&nbsp; &nbsp;Minimum agePersons under 18 will not be admitted. Nor accompanied by a parent, guardian and/or other adult.&nbsp; &nbsp;Zero tolerance drug policy&nbsp;Unfold.art has a zero tolerance policy regarding drugs. Unfold.art events are drugs free!It is forbidden to use, have or trade drugs. Any evidence of this will get you removed of the event.&nbsp;&nbsp;Entrance ticketAdmission to the event can only be provided if you are in possession of a valid entrance ticket. Tickets are available via our website / Facebookpage. Once purchased, tickets can’t be returned. You can experience the SORA show in two different ways: Exhibition and Live Show

AN IMMERSIVE ART SHOW

The Live Show presents an intensified version of the Exhibition, including a performance of the artist NONOTAK. Every show is unique. The show starts at set times. Program duration: 50 minutes.

Exhibition

SORA is our newest kinetic light installation where the architectural nature of the space isolates the audience from natural light, creating an opportunity to recreate our own enveloping landscape which is a combination of our kinetic setup and the rough texture of the Gasholder. SORA means sky in Japanese, which is the main inspiration for this piece. Sky is the most powerful light screen, connecting us visually to outer space. It’s hard to perceive all the complexity of it but the longer we look at it, the more we are able to perceive and realise details from it, especially at night. In a minimal and geometrical setup of moving light modules, SORA tempts to reflect the complexity that sky has to offer.Massive lights forming lines are in motion right above the audience, changing directions with the illusion of wind. Hundreds of stars are choreographed through a contrasted soundscape. The rhythms of the piece interprets the characteristics of the sky. Sometimes calm, peaceful and dreamy, sometimes&nbsp;energetic and stormy.Rotation is the central movement of SORA. Rotation is infinite and doesn’t have a beginning or ending. Experimenting with that endless motion, our attempt is to guide the audience into a contemplative and hypnotic experience.

ABOUT SORA

The live performance presents an intensified version of the exhibition, with the musical artists performing within the installation itself. All elements of the installation are controlled, altered and arranged in real-time during the show, so every performance is completely unique.

LIVE SHOW

The exhibition is experienced with no specific beginning or end. It is arranged to encourage a meditative experience, inviting the visitors to stay for an indefinite time. The layout encourages them to enjoy it however they like, sitting or laying down and drifting as far away from everyday life and the outside world as possible.

SORA is a kinetic installation that takes you on a meditative journey of light and sound in the rugged space of the Gashouder venue.&nbsp;SORA is Japanese for ‘sky’. The definitive light source, the sky visually connects us to the vastness of outer space. Through a geometrical structure of moving light modules, SORA symbolises that endless complexity.Elongated lines of light merge with hundreds of stars, moving to a carefully choreographed soundscape. Sometimes calm, other times turbulent. An infinite choreography of meditative light

SKALAR is a large-scale art installation that explores the complex impact of light and sound on human perception. This monumental artwork is a reflection on the fundamental nature and essence of human emotions. By combining a vast array of kinetic mirrors and perfectly synchronized moving lights with a sophisticated multi-channel sound system, SKALAR offers an audio-visual narration of radiant light vector drawings and multi-dimensional sound in enormous pitch-dark spaces. SKALAR is an intense journey through the cycle of basic human emotions. Ever-changing tonalities trigger the full spectrum of emotional experiences using light, sound, and motion. The feelings of awe, surprise, exhilaration, and anticipation of having one’s senses overwhelmed are created, explored, and repeated in cycles throughout the piece, providing a collective, yet highly individual emotional experience. The concept of SKALAR is based on Robert Plutchik’s psychoevolutionary theory of eight primary emotions: anger, fear, sadness, disgust, surprise, anticipation, trust, and joy. The combination of moving mirrors, a changing color palette, and the profound sound of SKALAR triggers sensory and psychological reactions, offering a truly innovative way to experience and feel art.

SKALAR: Reflections on Light and Sound

The exhibition runs continuously with no specific beginning or end. It is arranged in a meditative layout, encouraging visitors to stay for an indefinite time, walk around, sit or lay down on the floor, and drift as far away as possible from everyday life and the outside world.

As a special highlight, Christopher Bauder and Kangding Ray also present exclusive SKALAR live performances — an expanded and intensified version of the animation cycle. The artists bring choreographed light and electronic music to life in real-time. Every live show is a unique experience.&nbsp;In a live performance, the artists interpret eight basic emotions as opposed to four presented in the daily cycle of the exhibition. The live shows have a defined duration and a dramaturgic development with alternating ambient and beat-driven sections. It's a tribute to a concert setting with a defined start and endpoint. The connection between beats and performative visuals play a more dominant role when Christopher Bauder and Kangding Ray play with light and sound in real-time. No performance is like the other.

Bauder has brought his installations and performances to events and spaces around the world, including Centre Pompidou Paris, MUTEK Montreal, The Jewish Museum Berlin, The National Museum of Fine Arts in Taiwan and the National Opera in Beijing. He received international attention for his citywide light art installation “Lichtgrenze” created in 2014 together with his brother Marc to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
